Transgender + Community

The transgender community is one of the most globally vulnerable groups. Most of the hate and fear surrounding the community is fuelled by misconceptions and false allegations. These claims are often made with the intent to control and minimise communities. These regimes may be enforced for social, religious or economic purposes.

Our generalised notion is that we support everyone’s identity regardless of how well we can comprehend it, and we encourage others to do the same. This extends to the usage of neopronouns and xenopronouns and individuals using ‘contradictory’ labels and expressions.

Gender is not limited to the socially constructed binary, much like sexual characteristics are not. We also recognise that we are not the only species that display evidence of social transition, alongside sexual characteristic changes and ‘intersex’ qualities. We believe that Transgender + Individuals deserve to be in whichever spaces best represent how they identify. Nobody should need to perform to a standard to be permitted entry to a space, including cisgender individuals. Additionally, being intersex does not inherently make a person transgender as the definition of, ‘transgender,’ is to not identify with your gender recorded on your original birth certificate, or your ‘gender assigned at birth.’ Being intersex is having an anomaly with your physical sexual characteristics. Regardless of this, due to the complications with physical sex and gender that are caused by being intersex, many intersex people identify as transgender which the majority of the Transgender + community, including us, encourage.

Transgender identities, social and medical transitions have existed and executed for thousands of years. The evidence of this can be found in ancient writings and graves that have been ‘excavated.’ It is also important to recognise that different cultures have their own genders that cannot always be adopted by non-native persons. Respectively, the language surrounding Trans + identities has evolved differently throughout history across the globe. This means that Trans + individuals from different times, communities or cultures may identify with labels that feel harmful to others. Tolerance and understanding is necessary amongst the community, to ensure that we support each other’s identities without taking away from another’s. Never force your own labels onto someone who does not feel a personal connection to them. You are not entitled to name or know the gender of any person.

Language and science are always evolving and we frequently discover and develop terms to better represent new scientific findings on the understanding of sex and gender. This is not a new phenomenon. It is how language works.

Protesting

Whilst we would like to encourage people to protest legally and safely, we recognise that these methods do not always provide the most successful outcome. Above legal action, we support the liberation of the oppressed and so do not condemn those who behave antisocially or illegally when fighting for human rights.

We do, however, recognise that some actions have unnecessary consequences such as harming irrelevant small
businesses, innocent witnesses and other protesters. These are not actions that we support or encourage.
